MILLBRAE, San Mateo County — October 25, 2026. Drivers, walkers and residents near Bill Mitchell Park should check Millbrae’s current construction notices before traveling on Tioga Drive. According to the city’s official public works project directory, Phase I of a storm-drain improvement project is scheduled between October 12 and November 18, 2026, with a possible partial closure of Tioga Drive between Helen Drive and Richmond Drive near the park.
Why the drainage project is happening
The project is intended to address stormwater runoff and ponding problems affecting the area around Helen Drive. The city says improvements include replacement or installation of 36-inch and 18-inch storm drains, manholes, inlets, curbs and pavement repairs. It also plans associated water and sewer work under its one-dig approach. The timetable is an estimate and can change with site conditions.
More road work on La Prenda and Estates Drive
The city’s 2026 Street Resurfacing Project also targets La Prenda from Del Centro to the street end and Estates Drive between Crestview Drive and Springfield Drive. The project includes crack sealing, slurry seal and refreshed striping. City Hall’s public alert banner identifies temporary restrictions on these roads during October. Drivers should follow posted street signs rather than assuming the entire route is closed.
Upcoming meeting and community events
Millbrae’s official event calendar lists a City Council meeting Tuesday, October 27, a Sister Cities Commission meeting Monday, October 26, and a Día de los Muertos community celebration Friday, October 30. Exact times, locations, language access and participation procedures should be confirmed in the individual event or council agenda. The calendar alone is not evidence of an adopted policy or grant.
How to request help
Residents may use the city’s project directory to identify the work and responsible engineers, report problems through the Millbrae Works portal or subscribe to city service alerts. Check whether a roadway, sidewalk or driveway is accessible before moving large vehicles, arranging deliveries or planning emergency access.
